Indian Ink — Despite what the name would have you believe, Indian or India ink was actually first invented in China around the 3rd millennium BCE. Because English merchants were only exposed to the ink through their trade with India, they assumed it had originated in that region and named it accordingly. No matter the origin of its name, the color Indian Ink belongs to the dark blue or very dark blue color family, described as mostly black with a subtle blue tint.
